Portugal Estremadura
The Quinta de Sant’Ana is in the village of Gradil, near Malveira, in the heart of Estremadura - the region which for centuries has supplied Lisbon with fresh fruit and vegetables, wine, dairy products and meat. This historical family property directly adjoins the 1187-hectare "Tapada de Mafra”, once a hunting ground used by Portuguese kings and today a deer park and nature reserve. The Quinta de Sant’Ana has been in Ann’s family since the late 60s,and produces its own wine, fruit and vegetables, and wood. We have converted some of the estate’s buildings into enchanting holiday homes and welcome guests from all over the world, who want to experience Portugal and its people at first hand. If you are thinking of celebrating in a small or a big way (link), your dreams can come true at the Quinta de Sant’Ana… Gradil, a picturesque village with cobbled streets and very hospitable inhabitants, is 30km north of Lisbon airport and can be easily reached in half an hour.
The oldest part of the estate is the chapel, which dates back to 1630 and has a beautiful statue of Saint Anne and wonderful hand-painted ‘Azulejos’ (ceramic tiles). “Quinta” means a “fifth” - in the past this was the area of land used for the vegetable garden of an estate. Nowadays this ratio does not apply any more; the Quinta de Sant’Ana is divided into 20 hectares of woods, and 10 hectares of vineyards, orchards and meadows.
